Summer Fun with Kids

Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world. Ada Louise Huxtable

Hi there,

Summer is here and we all will have a special one this year. Since most of us cannot travel, plan holidays, send our kids to camps, lets talk about what we CAN do to make this summer a good one…

I will list all kinds of ideas that help me, hoping you will be able to use them too:

  • Play games to lower our kids’ stress and anxiety. Children have gone through a lot those last months, together with us so we should be aware of this. Lots of teenagers got more depressed. Young children do not always talk their feelings but go through anxiety and fear. They are affected by our reactions to the News and Virus around us.
  • Allow them to just do NOTHING for some parts of the first weeks. We all need some real break, no plans, no waking up at a certain time, no limitation of screens…just for a while only…
  • Make sure to purchase some great toys to play together because cooperative play is important, as well as games to encourage independent play.
  • If you live near the beach and can enjoy it, here is a list of toys for a great time while playing with the sand, encouraging sensory play.
  • If you can go camping, here are my recommendations for a great family camping trip. This provides lots of benefits and family bonding.
  • Replace some screen time into funny games because humor at home helps bonding and lowers stress.
  • Purchase some activity booklets-cheap, fun, teaches…here you can find a special 20% off.
  • Plan time for cooking together once a week.
  • Take advantage of summer holiday to encourage sibling bonding. Here are toys I recommend for this matter.
  • Teach kids flexible thinking and improve their general knowledge.
  • For young children 2-3 years old, use this time for potty training.
  • If you have a backyard, use it well and here are some outdoor toys great for kids, useful and good investment. Toys like trampolines, swings, playhouses, water play:

Use this long break well for yourself, your family, your kids. I do not mean by that to make yourself fully available if you work and need to work. It  is OK to allow the kids some alone-time, time between siblings…I mean try to  use this time to teach and improve what you believe is important and lack of that time during the school year.

Summertime is a special one for all of us, so yes we live in uncertainty, many lost their jobs, others are very anxious and depressed.

I highly recommend taking a break, breath, use this time to think and meditate, connect to yourself, define better your goals, your needs, help your kids improve some specific skills and get stronger through this tougher times worldwide.

Here is the list of my favorite TED talks for parents, that are motivational and give lots of ideas how to deal, what to do, how to raise and educate. I recommend watching them as well following a great coach like Tony Robbins. That is what helps me so might help other parents too!
