Why Cooking with kids?

Cooking with kids is not just about ingredients, recipes, and cooking. It's about harnessing imagination, empowerment, and creativity. Guy Fieri (American restaurateur, author, and an Emmy Award winning television presenter)

We already talked about the importance of family meals and how to make them fun.

I have a 10-year-old daughter, Elinor, who loves to cook. From early age, she enjoys it with me first and we spent lots of time cooking together, and later on started to prepare Saturday morning great breakfast for us, then asked to go to cooking classes and I even found her watch cooking TV shows by herself.

When a child loves something, this is just coming from inside and they find ways to learn and get better at it! It is beautiful to see it as a mom.

When I have no time and need a cake or cookies, I know I can count on her which is great!

For her  birthday this year, she got lots of baking accessories as gifts I do not even have on my own! And for her birthday with the family, we organized a cooking contest, like MasterChef TV show. Here are some images of the meal children made. It was fun, encouraged creativity and children involvement which I love!

All what you see below are made by children!!

Here are the benefits of cooking with kids:

1-children are involved, as they take part and this gives them a great feeling of “I can do” or “I am capable” or “I belong”!

2-kids learn quantity, following step-be-step recipe or instructions

3-They feel great with the immediate result as this is quite immediate.

4-They get quality time with mom or dad or even grandma/granddad which is priceless, no matter which one of the kids.

5-they create great memories based on taste and smell – a whole sensory experience.

6-they learn and will use it later on for themselves which is also very useful.

Here are few sites I wish to recommend for an easy cooking with kids to involve them in the process.

Unfortunately, it is not always possible to cook with children, because you have to do it quickly. But sometimes we do it and we really like it. Thank you for your article and for reminding me of the importance of cooking together.
