People to People: Your kid’s Toys Inventors (Yogi Fun)

Most toy inventors and developers are parents themselves or work with kids and learned from their own experience what they wish they had, as kids or what made them who they are today.

I believe in people, in the people behind the toys, behind the innovation, behind the hard work.
I also believe in conscious parenting.

So here is a “Behind the scenes” of Toy development, to get to know the people behind your kid’s toys.

This is also an insight with lots of great advises for new and future toy inventors.

Meet Karin Sella and Guy Meltzer,  CO-Founders of Yogi Fun…

guy

Tell us about your products:

We invent and produce yoga games for kids (and their parents).

On one side we develop yoga games based on well known games, such as domino and matching games – but with the yoga inputs. For instance – our Yogi domino is all about balancing poses. It balances not only the body but the mind as well. They are connected – you can not keep your balance if your mind is jumping like a monkey!

Half of the brand is more original in aspects of rules and game ideas. There are few must-have in our games, which keeps us on track

-Most of our games are suitable for playing alone or along with friends of different ages and also as family

-All our games encourage collaboration and there is never one winner, since we believe group harmony is the most important key for humanity to develop in the future. We feel that competitiveness as a tool of success belongs to history, and these days ask for something quite different.

-The spirit of yoga has to be in every detail

-the language, the illustrations, the design, the instructions, the development etc.

As a kid, what was your favorite toys and games?

Playing outside, physical activities with imagination

What drives you while developing new toys?

We started in a Kick starter project, believing it is an amazing way to fulfill dreams! We want to thank all the people in the world who are creating such platforms – it is such a great set of mind – making people supporting others, and being an active part in publishing someone’s else project!

We launched just the YOGi Kit, since back then we didn’t have the dream to be a company, but just to develop this game. BTW, here is our video from back then, when we were young and beautiful.

I taught Children Yoga in the summer vacation as part of an English camp. I was using basic yoga cards showing animals and kids, and was thinking that it is too bad there aren’t cards also showing the word in English, to make learning more fun. So I Invented such a game, and included also Arabic, since we live in Israel and it is very important to learn it as well.

After giving Guy, my business partner,  the YOGi kit and seeing his kid’s enthusiasm, he offered to jump on board and take this global…

His imagination (including hands-on) had no limits! We started by translating the Yogi Kit into English, and right afterwards – more and more games found their way to this world.

Regarding the inspiration,  I had moved from developing medical devices to assist sick people to develop games for kids, hoping they will adopt healthy habits from an early age, and so reduce the amount of diseases in adulthood.

For Guy, experience and skills came together in one thing – Yoga, translation, business development and fatherhood. It just seemed the right thing from day 1.

The fun part in developing games/toys…

The process of imagining it, to the end point where the game exists and we receive feed-backs of parents and children

The difficult part / time while developing toys…

Too many hours in front of the computer 🙂

In your opinion, what are the main values kids need today?

Being connected to their selves, friends and surroundings, in a direct way. Also moving and relaxing.

Any important lesson you learned through the process of developing toys for kids about your own parenting?

If the kids are dynamic and spending their energy enough hours a day – everything is easier for them and for me… (concentration, cooperation, eating, sleeping…)

What are the 3 advises you wish to give today to new & future toy inventors?

1. Consult with as many people but always stay connected to your intuition

2. Believe in yourself and also be grounded to make the plans work

3. Be generous to other developers, look for collaborations

Why should parents or grandparents purchase your products?

Kids just LOVE yoga!
Their nature is to move!
They need to move. We just give them the environment to connect to it again, and use their body instead of staring at screens which causes inner stress, due to too much stimuli.

Our games are also a perfect tool for ADHD and other symptoms – we receive feedback from teachers which say the kids can’t get enough. This is our specialty and we are very happy to share it.

Researches show that certain yoga poses relax the entire body, and also the mind, this is why yoga is becoming more popular in schools and it is awesome!
Life is all about playing and everything is super exciting – if we find the peace of mind to connect to the essence.
We wish you health, joy and much much togetherness in your playing time.

Anything else you wish to share with parents and new toy inventors?

We wish to keep on developing high quality, dynamic games, bringing the benefits of yoga to as many houses as possible. Our range covers all ages and different difficulty levels, and this gives us the opportunity to get into every home. We are aiming to spread good values in the world.

YOGi FUN games are based on cooperation, and we truly have a prayer in our hearts, that all beings will be free & happy.
