As your 3-year-old grows up fast, he begins to explore, meet new people, and learn about the basic shapes and colors. His attention span is growing and he learns more communication skills. A 3-year-old begins to get a better sense of the world and how things work in there anyway. They would be better able to follow the instructions and communicate their feelings and needs.

Important milestones: What most toddlers do at this age?

Developmental milestones are things most children can do by a certain age. These are the skills you can expect your child to know at age 3 or soon after.

Language and Communication Skills
  • Follows 2-3 steps instructions
  • Knows how to use pronouns and plural words like “cats” and “cars”
  • Names common objects
  • Says first name, age, and gender
  • Speaks sentences with 3-4 words (article about dialog and emotions)
  • Talks enough that even strangers can usually understand
